Compared with traditional material marking technology, laser marking system has higher accuracy, higher readability, lower labor cost and minimal loss. Laser marking systems are extremely fast compared to traditional marking systems such as dot peen marking. They can create a 2D design in about 1 second or less compared to 5 seconds required by dot peen systems, saving a lot of time in factories where many objects need to be marked or engraved. The most common applications for laser marking systems include annealing, carbon migration, foaming and coloring.

High power lasers are used in large laser displays, medical, military, research, laser induced nuclear fusion and materials processing (welding, cutting, drilling, welding, marking and surface modification). Recently, advanced laser technologies such as 3D laser marking and hybrid laser marking have been increasingly adopted. The hybrid laser marking machine is a high-speed laser ideal for applications that require a high degree of versatility on marking materials, from plastics to metals. Hybrid marking lasers are characterized by their peak power and extremely short pulse durations. Challenge:

The use of high-power lasers presents several challenges. The main challenge is the need for one or more powerful pump sources as diode-pumped lasers to achieve high output power in CW operation. Another technical challenge is the requirement for an efficient wall plug for long-term CW operation. This is due to the inability to achieve efficiency at high power levels. High-power lasers also exhibit nonlinear effects such as Raman scattering, Brillouin scattering, and four-wave mixing.
