Market Analysis & Outlook
Green chelates are biodegradable chelating agents derived from renewable feedstocks such as glucose, corn starch or amino acids, used in place of conventional synthetic chelators like EDTA to bind and stabilize metal ions in a formulation. They are supplied as liquids or powders to formulators in industrial and institutional cleaning, water treatment, agricultural fertilizer, personal care and food processing, where buyers value both metal-binding performance and a favorable environmental and regulatory profile. Purchasers range from large multinational formulators sourcing under long-term supply contracts to smaller regional producers buying through distributors.
Between 2025 and 2034 the global green chelates natural chelating agents market moves from USD 2.05 billion to USD 3.98 billion, compounding at 7.75% a year. Fifteen years are covered in all, taking in USD 1.53 billion in 2020, USD 1.94 billion in 2024, USD 2.19 billion in 2026 and USD 2.93 billion in 2030.
38% of 2025 revenue sits in Sodium Gluconate, worth USD 0.779 billion and rising to USD 1.274 billion at 32% by 2034, the largest type line in both years. Growth is fastest in MGDA at 10.88% and slowest in Other at 4.35%. Share moves toward EDDS and MGDA and away from Sodium Gluconate, GLAD and Other, though no line shrinks in revenue terms.
The application split puts Cleaning first, at USD 0.615 billion and 30% of revenue in 2025, rising to USD 1.075 billion and 27% in 2034. Agriculture grows faster at 9.52% against 6.4%, moving from 18% of revenue to 21% by 2034. It cuts the same total as the type axis from a different commercial angle, so revenue does not add across the two.
USD 0.656 billion of 2025 revenue is generated in Europe, 32% of the global total and the largest regional share; it reaches USD 1.154 billion by 2034. North America is next at 28% and USD 0.574 billion, and Middle East and Africa last at 6%. Share shifts toward Asia Pacific over the forecast period, which is what makes the regional split worth reading rather than assuming.
Behind these figures sit five regions, five type lines and five segmentation axes, each reported for every year from 2020 to 2034. The headline 2025 value is triangulated from published sources and category proxies rather than an independently sourced count, and the same applies to the segment, regional and country breakdowns drawn from it.

Key Takeaways
- Revenue grows from USD 2.05 billion in 2025 to USD 3.98 billion in 2034, a compound annual rate of 7.75%, having reached USD 1.94 billion in 2024 from USD 1.53 billion in 2020.
- The largest line by type is Sodium Gluconate, worth USD 0.779 billion and 38% of revenue in 2025, rising to USD 1.274 billion and 32% by 2034.
- MGDA is the fastest-growing line at 10.88%, lifting its share from 20% in 2025 to 26% in 2034 and its revenue from USD 0.41 billion to USD 1.035 billion.
- The bull case puts 2034 revenue at USD 4.458 billion and the bear case at USD 3.582 billion, either side of the USD 3.98 billion base case, each with its own stated assumption in the full report.
- Europe holds 32% of global revenue in 2025 at USD 0.656 billion, the largest of the five regions tracked, and reaches USD 1.154 billion by 2034.
- 32.01% of Europe's base-year revenue comes from Germany alone: USD 0.21 billion in 2025, rising to USD 0.369 billion by 2034, which is why it is that region's worked example.
- Every line on all five segmentation axes and in each of the five regions carries its own revenue, share and growth rate for all fifteen years, 2020 through 2034, on a 2025 base.
Market Trends
Revenue Share, By By Type
Base year 2025Sodium Gluconate leads with 38.0% of by type segment revenue.
Share of by type segment revenue, most recent base year.
Read across the forecast period, the global green chelates natural chelating agents market shows movement in three places: type composition, regional weight, and the 7.75% rate applied to the whole.
The direction of the market is not in question in any of the three. Each line and each region grows in revenue terms; the question is which takes the larger part of the growth.
The type mix tilts toward MGDA. 10.88% against 4.35%: that gap, between MGDA and Other, is the largest on the type axis. Over the forecast period that moves MGDA from 20% of revenue to 26%, and Other from 8% to 6%. Neither contracts: USD 0.41 billion becomes USD 1.035 billion, USD 0.164 billion becomes USD 0.239 billion. What the spread decides is which of them a supplier's revenue is exposed to.
Growth concentrates in Asia Pacific. Asia Pacific moves from 27% of revenue in 2025 to 33% in 2034, worth USD 0.554 billion rising to USD 1.313 billion. The offsetting side is North America at 28% moving to 25%, Europe at 32% moving to 29%, Latin America at 7% moving to 7%, Middle East and Africa at 6% moving to 6%, none of which contracts. Revenue added in this market is therefore concentrating geographically rather than spreading evenly, and a participant weighted toward a share-losing region grows more slowly than the market even while its own revenue climbs.
Fifteen years without a discontinuity. Reading the series: USD 1.53 billion in 2020, USD 1.94 billion in 2024, USD 2.05 billion in 2025, USD 2.19 billion in 2026, USD 2.93 billion in 2030 and USD 3.98 billion in 2034. Against 6.03% through the historical period, the 7.75% forecast rate is a continuation; no year in the series interrupts it. That moves the planning question away from timing a turn and onto the type and regional mixes, where the actual movement is.
Market Growth Factors
MGDA adds the most incremental growth
Market Drivers
3- 01MGDA adds the most incremental growth
MGDA compounds at 10.88% against 7.75% for the market, rising from USD 0.41 billion in 2025 to USD 1.035 billion in 2034 and from 20% of revenue to 26%. Nothing else on the axis grows as fast (Other manages 4.35%) so the blended 7.75% is carried by this one line rather than shared across them. Exposure to this line, rather than exposure to the market, is what determines a supplier's own rate.
- 02The two largest regions hold most of the base
Europe is the largest region at USD 0.656 billion in 2025, 32% of global revenue, and reaches USD 1.154 billion by 2034 while holding 29%. North America is next at 28% of revenue, USD 0.574 billion in 2025 and USD 0.995 billion in 2034. Because both the existing revenue and the revenue added concentrate in these two, regional weighting matters more to a forecast than regional count does.
- 03Fifteen years of unbroken growth underpin the forecast
The historical period compounded at 6.03%; USD 1.53 billion in 2020, USD 1.94 billion in 2024 and USD 2.05 billion in 2025. From there the forecast carries 7.75% through to USD 3.98 billion in 2034. Fifteen years of unbroken growth in the series means the forecast rests on a demonstrated trajectory rather than a projected turnaround, and it is why the 7.75% rate is applied across the whole period rather than ramped through it.

Drivers contribute 2.13 Billion and restraints remove 0.2 Billion, a net 1.93 Billion, which is the revenue the market adds between the base year and 2034. Contributions are CDI estimates, apportioned so that they reconcile with the forecast rather than being read from it.
Growth in the global green chelates natural chelating agents market comes from three measurable sources over 2026-2034: the market's own compounding at 7.75%, the share gained by faster-growing type lines, and expansion in the regions taking a larger part of global revenue.
Restraining Factors
The bear case and what drives it
Market Restraints
2- 01The bear case and what drives it
The study's downside path assumes slower regulatory enforcement and continued price competition from lower-cost conventional synthetic chelators delays reformulation timelines and slows fermentation capacity additions, and ends 2034 at USD 3.582 billion against the USD 3.98 billion base case, the same USD 2.05 billion base year, a slower forecast period.
- 02Sodium Gluconate holds the blended rate down
Sodium Gluconate carries 38% of 2025 revenue at USD 0.779 billion but compounds at 5.69% against 7.75% for the market, taking its share to 32% by 2034 even as revenue rises to USD 1.274 billion. Because it carries that much of the base, its pace holds the blended rate down more than any faster line lifts it.
Market Opportunities
Where the forecast could be beaten
Market Opportunities
2- 01Where the forecast could be beaten
What would beat the forecast: faster-than-expected regulatory restriction on conventional synthetic chelators across major markets accelerates formulator switching and pulls forward fermentation capacity investment. That case reaches USD 4.458 billion in 2034 rather than USD 3.98 billion, and it is worth testing against a reader's own read of the market.
- 02The opening is on the type axis, not the regional one
MGDA grows at 10.88% against 7.75% for the market, adding revenue from USD 0.41 billion in 2025 to USD 1.035 billion in 2034 and taking its share from 20% to 26%. It is the place on this axis where share changes hands at scale, so it is where an entrant can take position without displacing the incumbent in Sodium Gluconate.
Market Challenges
The total depends on a single line
Market Challenges
2- 01The total depends on a single line
One line dominates: Sodium Gluconate, at 38% of revenue in 2025 and 32% in 2034, worth USD 0.779 billion and USD 1.274 billion. Anything that changes demand for it changes the headline number; nothing else on the axis carries that weight.
- 02Single-country exposure in Europe
Europe is worth USD 0.656 billion in 2025 and USD 0.21 billion of that is Germany; 32.01% of the region, reaching USD 0.369 billion in 2034. Regional totals therefore move largely with one country's demand, so a regional forecast is more exposed to single-country conditions than its size alone suggests.
Segmentation Analysis
5 axesThe global green chelates natural chelating agents market is cut five ways: by type, application, source, form and distribution channel. Each axis cuts the same total revenue along a different commercial dimension, so the splits are alternative views of one market rather than additions to it.
All five type lines expand in revenue terms over the forecast period. Share is the dividing line; two take it, the others cede it.

| Other | $0.16B | 8% | $0.24B | 6%-2 | 4.3% |
Sodium gluconate leads because it is the most established, lowest-cost green chelate with the longest track record in cleaning and water treatment formulations. MGDA is growing fastest as formulators reformulate away from phosphates and EDTA, valuing its stronger metal-binding performance and readily biodegradable profile in personal care and premium cleaning products, where regulatory pressure is most active. The order does not change: Sodium Gluconate is still largest in 2034, and what moves is how much it holds. This is the axis the estimation prices in full, year by year, and the one the regional chapters cut against.

| Other | $0.08B | 4% | $0.12B | 3%-1 | 4.2% |
Cleaning leads because industrial and institutional detergent formulators were the earliest and largest adopters of biodegradable chelators, replacing phosphates and EDTA under long-standing regulation. Agriculture is growing fastest as fertilizer producers adopt chelated micronutrients to improve nutrient uptake efficiency and meet tightening restrictions on conventional synthetic chelators in soil and water applications across major farming regions. The order does not change: Cleaning is still largest in 2034, and what moves is how much it holds.

| Synthetic Biodegradable | $0.51B | 25% | $0.99B | 25% | 7.6% |
Fermentation-derived chelates lead because continuous fermentation of glucose feedstock offers the lowest production cost at scale, favoring producers with established fermentation capacity. Fermentation-derived supply is also growing fastest, since expanding capacity is easier to add to existing fermentation infrastructure than to build new synthetic biodegradable production lines, and fermentation routes align most closely with the renewable-feedstock claims buyers increasingly require. By 2034 Fermentation-derived is still ahead, making this a shift in weight rather than a change of leader.

| Powder/Granules | $0.78B | 38% | $1.59B | 40%+2 | 8.3% |
Liquid formulations lead because most industrial and institutional cleaning and water treatment customers prefer ready-to-use liquid chelates that avoid on-site dissolution and dosing equipment. Powder and granule formats are growing fastest, driven by agricultural and food-processing buyers who need dry-blended products with longer shelf stability and lower shipping weight for distribution into regional and export markets. The order does not change: Liquid is still largest in 2034, and what moves is how much it holds.

| Distributors & Retailers | $0.66B | 32% | $1.35B | 34%+2 | 8.4% |
Direct and B2B sales lead because large formulators in cleaning, personal care and water treatment prefer long-term supply contracts negotiated directly with producers for price and volume certainty. Distributor and retailer channels are growing fastest as fermentation-route producers expand into smaller regional and agricultural accounts that are more efficiently served through established local distribution networks than through direct sales teams. By 2034 Direct/B2B Sales is still ahead, making this a shift in weight rather than a change of leader.

- Revenue $0.45B → $0.78B
The United States is the largest market within North America, generating USD 0.448 billion in 2025 and projected to reach USD 0.776 billion by 2034. At 78.05% of regional revenue in the base year it is not one market among several, the region's trajectory is largely this country's trajectory. Set against USD 0.574 billion and USD 0.995 billion for the region, it is why this market rather than a smaller one is the one reported in full.
Composition here matches the global split: the largest line is Sodium Gluconate at 38% of 2025 revenue, easing to 32% by 2034, and the fastest is MGDA at 10.88%, from 20% to 26%. With 78.05% of North America concentrated here, a change in this country's mix is visible in the regional figures instead of being diluted by its neighbours. The United States carries its own type breakdown in the full report.
In the United States, chelating agents supplied for industrial, water-treatment, or agricultural use are subject to the Environmental Protection Agency's Toxic Substances Control Act, which requires a substance to be listed on the TSCA Inventory before commercial distribution and can trigger reporting or use restrictions where warranted. Where a chelate is marketed as a plant-nutrient carrier or micronutrient fertilizer ingredient, individual state departments of agriculture apply their own product registration and labelling rules, generally aligned with the model framework maintained by the Association of American Plant Food Control Officials. Chelates intended for food, dietary, or cosmetic formulations instead fall under Food and Drug Administration ingredient-safety review, with labelling obligations attaching to whichever end use the supplier targets.
Competition in the United States runs between the suppliers this study tracks: BASF, Akzo Nobel, Lanxess, Innospec, PMP Fermentation Products, Jungbunzlauer, Roquette Frères and Others. The commercially relevant division is 38% of 2025 revenue in Sodium Gluconate, where the volume is, against 10.88% growth in MGDA, where share moves. USD 0.21 billion of Europe's 2025 revenue is generated in Germany, the region's largest market, reaching USD 0.369 billion by 2034. Its 32.01% of base-year regional revenue leads the region, though enough sits elsewhere that Europe is not a proxy for it. Against regional totals of USD 0.656 billion in 2025 and USD 1.154 billion in 2034, it is the country the full report breaks out in detail.
Demand in Germany follows the type mix reported at global level: Sodium Gluconate is the largest line at 38% of 2025 revenue, moving to 32% by 2034, while MGDA grows fastest at 10.88% and takes its share from 20% to 26%. Its 32.01% weight in Europe means those movements carry straight into the regional totals. Germany carries its own type breakdown in the full report.
In Germany, chelating agents are governed by the European Union's REACH regulation, which obliges a manufacturer or importer to register the substance and characterise its hazards before it can be placed on the market, alongside the CLP regulation's classification and labelling requirements for any hazardous properties identified. Where a chelate is formulated as a fertilising product or plant biostimulant, the EU Fertilising Products Regulation sets the conformity route, including a declaration that the input meets defined quality and safety criteria before it may carry CE marking. Cosmetic or personal-care applications instead fall under the EU Cosmetics Regulation, which requires a safety assessment and standardised ingredient labelling before sale within the bloc.
BASF, Akzo Nobel, Lanxess, Innospec, PMP Fermentation Products, Jungbunzlauer, Roquette Frères and Others are the suppliers covered in Germany. Volume sits in Sodium Gluconate at 38% of 2025 revenue; movement sits in MGDA at 10.88% growth. The region itself runs USD 0.554 billion to USD 1.313 billion over the same period, and this is the market carrying the country-level detail in the full report.
The type pattern in China is the global one: 38% of 2025 revenue in Sodium Gluconate, 32% by 2034, against 10.88% growth in MGDA taking it from 20% to 26%. Since 44.95% of Asia Pacific's revenue is generated here, the regional numbers inherit this market's mix rather than smoothing it out. China carries its own type breakdown in the full report.
In China, chelating agents intended for industrial or general chemical use fall under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment's new chemical substance notification scheme, commonly compared to the European REACH regime, which requires listing on the Inventory of Existing Chemical Substances in China or a separate new-substance filing before manufacture or import. Where a chelate is supplied as a fertilizer or micronutrient input for agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs administers a distinct fertilizer registration certificate system, with accompanying national standards governing composition and labelling claims. Suppliers targeting food or personal-care formulations face additional ingredient approval and labelling review from the relevant national health and market-regulation authorities.
The suppliers tracked in this study (BASF, Akzo Nobel, Lanxess, Innospec, PMP Fermentation Products, Jungbunzlauer, Roquette Frères and Others) compete in China across the type lines above. The commercially relevant division is 38% of 2025 revenue in Sodium Gluconate, where the volume is, against 10.88% growth in MGDA, where share moves. Country-level shares and positioning per company sit in the full report.

Latin America Market Analysis
The 4th-largest region covered, holding its share flat through 2034, while revenue still grows 1.9×.
- Rank 4 of 5
- 2025 share 7%
- By 2034 7%
- Revenue $0.14B → $0.28B
In Latin America, 7% of global revenue puts 2025 at USD 0.144 billion rising to USD 0.279 billion in 2034. By revenue it sits fourth across the study, and the ranking does not change between 2025 and 2034.
Share settles at 7% in 2034, though revenue still rises throughout; what changes is the region's weight against faster-growing ones, which is not the same as weakening demand.
Sodium Gluconate leads here as it does globally, at 38% of 2025 revenue, and MGDA again grows fastest at 10.88%. Per-axis and per-country detail for Latin America sits in the full report.
Brazil
The largest market in Latin America, growing 1.9×.
- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 54.9%
- Of global 3.9%
- Revenue $0.08B → $0.15B
The largest single market in Latin America is Brazil, at USD 0.079 billion in 2025 and USD 0.153 billion in 2034. Its 54.86% of base-year regional revenue leads the region, though enough sits elsewhere that Latin America is not a proxy for it. Set against USD 0.144 billion and USD 0.279 billion for the region, it is why this market rather than a smaller one is the one reported in full.
The type pattern in Brazil is the global one: 38% of 2025 revenue in Sodium Gluconate, 32% by 2034, against 10.88% growth in MGDA taking it from 20% to 26%. Since 54.86% of Latin America's revenue is generated here, the regional numbers inherit this market's mix rather than smoothing it out. Per-type revenue for Brazil appears on its own in the full report.
In Brazil, chelated micronutrient products supplied for agricultural use are regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, which requires registration of the fertilizer or soil-amendment product and conformity with national technical standards covering composition, guaranteed nutrient content, and labelling before sale. Where a chelating agent is instead formulated into a cosmetic, personal-care, or food product, the National Health Surveillance Agency applies its own ingredient-safety and labelling requirements as part of product notification or registration. Suppliers operating across both channels must therefore track two distinct approval routes, since a chelate's regulatory classification in Brazil follows its declared end use rather than the underlying chemistry.
BASF, Akzo Nobel, Lanxess, Innospec, PMP Fermentation Products, Jungbunzlauer, Roquette Frères and Others are the suppliers covered in Brazil. Two different problems sit on the same axis: holding Sodium Gluconate at 38% of 2025 revenue, and taking MGDA while it grows at 10.88%. Country-level shares and positioning per company sit in the full report.
Mexico
2nd-largest in Latin America, growing 2.0×.
- In region 2 of 2
- Of region 29.9%
- Of global 2.1%
- Revenue $0.04B → $0.08B
Mexico is sized at USD 0.043 billion in 2025, rising to USD 0.084 billion by 2034; 2.1% of global revenue and 29.86% of Latin America. It is reported separately from Brazil across every segmentation axis in the full report.
Middle East and Africa Market Analysis
The 5th-largest region covered, holding its share flat through 2034, while revenue still grows 1.9×.
- Rank 5 of 5
- 2025 share 6%
- By 2034 6%
- Revenue $0.12B → $0.24B
In Middle East and Africa, 6% of global revenue puts 2025 at USD 0.123 billion rising to USD 0.239 billion in 2034. Among the five regions it ranks fifth by revenue in both years.
Share settles at 6% in 2034, a shift in share rather than in direction: revenue climbs every year while the market's centre of gravity moves elsewhere.
The type mix reported at global level applies here, with Sodium Gluconate the largest line at 38% of 2025 revenue and MGDA the fastest-growing at 10.88%. Revenue for Middle East and Africa is broken out by every segmentation axis and by country in the full report.
Saudi Arabia
The largest market in Middle East and Africa, growing 2.0×.
- In region 1 of 2
- Of region 35%
- Of global 2.1%
- Revenue $0.04B → $0.08B
34.96% of Middle East and Africa's base-year revenue comes from Saudi Arabia; USD 0.043 billion, rising to USD 0.084 billion by 2034. Its 34.96% of base-year regional revenue leads the region, though enough sits elsewhere that Middle East and Africa is not a proxy for it. Against regional totals of USD 0.123 billion in 2025 and USD 0.239 billion in 2034, it is the country the full report breaks out in detail.
The type pattern in Saudi Arabia is the global one: 38% of 2025 revenue in Sodium Gluconate, 32% by 2034, against 10.88% growth in MGDA taking it from 20% to 26%. Since 34.96% of Middle East and Africa's revenue is generated here, the regional numbers inherit this market's mix rather than smoothing it out. Revenue by type for Saudi Arabia is reported separately in the full report.
In Saudi Arabia, chemical inputs such as chelating agents are brought within the conformity-assessment framework administered by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, which requires registration on the SABER platform and a certificate of conformity confirming the product meets applicable technical regulations before import or sale. Where a chelate is supplied as an agricultural or fertilizer input, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture additionally requires product registration and adherence to national standards covering composition and labelling claims. Formulations directed at food or cosmetic use fall under the Saudi Food and Drug Authority's ingredient and labelling requirements, so the applicable route again depends on the product's declared end use.
In Saudi Arabia the field is BASF, Akzo Nobel, Lanxess, Innospec, PMP Fermentation Products, Jungbunzlauer, Roquette Frères and Others. Volume sits in Sodium Gluconate at 38% of 2025 revenue; movement sits in MGDA at 10.88% growth. The full report covers country-level positioning and shares company by company; this summary does not.
South Africa
2nd-largest in Middle East and Africa, growing 1.9×.

Competitive Landscape
Scale in Sodium Gluconate and Growth in MGDA Set the Terms of Competition
Suppliers in scope: BASF, Akzo Nobel, Lanxess, Innospec, PMP Fermentation Products, Jungbunzlauer, Roquette Frères and Others.
The competitive line that matters is the type one, not the geographic one. The largest block of revenue is Sodium Gluconate: USD 0.779 billion in 2025 at 38% of the total, 32% in 2034. Incumbency there is expensive to challenge. The line that changes hands is MGDA at 10.88%, well ahead of Other at 4.35%. A supplier positioned in one is not automatically positioned in the other, which is what keeps a field of this size viable in a market of USD 2.05 billion.
Competition centers on fermentation and formulation scale, since the lowest-cost producers of sodium gluconate and MGDA benefit from continuous fermentation capacity that smaller entrants cannot easily match, and on regulatory and technical support, since large formulators need chelate suppliers who can document biodegradability and support REACH-style registrations across regions. The largest suppliers hold advantages in production scale, multi-region manufacturing footprint and long-standing supply contracts with major cleaning and personal care formulators. Smaller and regional producers compete on price in commodity gluconate grades, on proximity to local formulators, and on flexibility in smaller order volumes that larger suppliers are less willing to serve.
Geographic reach is the other axis of competition. Europe alone accounts for 32% of 2025 revenue, so a supplier absent there is absent from the largest part of the market whatever its position elsewhere; North America adds a further 28%.

Research approach
A market size is a claim about the world, and a claim is only as good as the route to it. Every study is built upward from units and prices — what is actually produced, sold or performed, at what it actually changes hands for — rather than from a headline figure divided downwards. Disclosed company revenue is then used to check that build, not to produce it.
Market size is built bottom-up from estimated production and sale volumes of the five chelate types (sodium gluconate, EDDS, MGDA, GLAD and other biodegradable chelators) across the six end-use applications, multiplied by average regional selling prices per tonne, then checked against top-down expenditure estimates derived from cleaning, water treatment, agriculture, personal care and food processing formulation budgets. Fermentation and plant-derived production capacity reported by major producers anchors the volume base; regional splits draw on chemical trade flow and industrial water treatment spend. Where the two tracks diverge, the volume-based estimate is treated as the primary figure and the expenditure-based estimate as a check, with the gap reconciled by revisiting price assumptions per application rather than averaging the two results.
The four stages
The same sequence runs behind every published study, whatever the industry. The order matters as much as the steps: the segment axes are fixed before any number is collected, so the model is never reshaped to fit whatever data happens to turn up.
What the build rests on, and what checks it
The two are not interchangeable. The left column produces the number; the right column tests it. When the check disagrees with the build, the answer is to find which bottom-up assumption is wrong — a unit count, a price, a take-up rate — not to split the difference between them.
- Volume actually transacted — units produced, installed, dispensed or procedures performed, counted at the level each is genuinely recorded
- Realised pricing by tier and channel, rather than one blended average applied across the whole market
- Take-up and frequency: how much of the addressable base buys, and how often it repeats
- Disclosed revenue of the companies serving the market, where filings separate it far enough to be usable
- Buyer-side spending totals — capital budgets, procurement lines, or the output of the end market the product is bought against
- Trade and customs flows, where the product crosses borders in a separately recorded form
Data sources
Published data establishes what happened. Only the people transacting in a market can say why, and what is about to change — so the two are collected separately and weighted differently.
- Commercial and product leadership at the companies that supply the market
- Procurement and specification leads at the organisations that buy it
- Distributors, integrators and channel partners, where the market is served indirectly
- Regulatory and standards specialists, where approval governs what can be sold at all
- Company filings, annual reports and investor disclosure
- Government statistics, customs records and regulatory registers
- Trade association output and standards-body publications
- Technical and peer-reviewed literature, where the market rests on a clinical or engineering claim
Primary input comes from commercial and technical contacts at chelate producers and downstream formulators: procurement leads at cleaning and personal care manufacturers, agronomy and formulation staff at fertilizer companies, and regulatory affairs contacts tracking phosphate and EDTA restrictions across major jurisdictions. Distribution partners serving smaller industrial buyers are also consulted to confirm channel pricing and regional availability. Sampling weights toward Europe and North America, where biodegradability regulation is most advanced and disclosure is more available, with additional outreach into China and India to capture fermentation-route capacity and agricultural chelate demand growth. Findings are checked against public trade data and regulatory filings before being folded into the volume and expenditure estimates described above.
Desk research runs across proprietary research databases including Factiva, OneSource and Hoovers alongside the public sources above. Modelling and statistical validation are run in SAS and SPSS.
Triangulation and validation
No figure enters a report on the strength of one source. Where the two sizing routes disagree the difference is not averaged away — the assumption causing it is isolated, tested against a third independent measure, and either corrected or carried forward as a stated limitation. Historical years are back-tested against the growth actually recorded before any forecast is allowed to run forward from them.
Every report purchase includes direct access to the lead analyst for scoping questions on the data, at no extra cost and with no separate booking process.
